The Sunday Monthlong is a monthly chess tournament that plays one round per week, every Sunday afternoon throughout the month. All ages and skill levels are welcome!

Event description

• Format: 4 round Swiss System, one Open section. Rounds weekly, Sunday afternoons.

• Round dates: September 6, 13, 20, 27

• Location: Chess Club Coffee, 3144 W Irving Park Rd, Chicago, IL 60618

• Weekly schedule:

  • Please check in at the bar/with staff before 1:00pm (late check-ins may not be paired with an opponent).

  • Round start at 1:15pm (games usually go on until around 2:30pm)

• Time control: G/25;+10 (25 minutes with a 10-second increment)

• Prizes:

  • First place: $40

  • Second place: $20

  • Prizes are to be awarded after the final round has concluded.

  • Tiebreaks: To determine rankings for prizes when players finish with the same score, the order of tiebreak methods used is Modified Median, Solkoff, Cumulative, Cumulative Opposition.

• Registration details:

  • Entry fee: $10

  • Registration stays open throughout the month

  • Limited entry onsite–please register online if possible

  • Space is limited to 16 participants

• Rating & Membership: This event is unrated and no membership is required to participate.

• Byes: Two half-point byes available. Requests must be made before the check-in period. Please email sam@chessclubcoffeeco.com to request a bye.

• Note about odd number of players: If there are an odd number of players present for any given round, one player will be selected to receive a full-point bye and not be paired with an opponent. Any one player shall not receive more than one of these byes throughout the tournament.

• Parking: Street parking is available around the building.

To ensure an enjoyable experience for all participants, please notify us if you're unable to attend a round. No-shows impact the tournament and disrupt the game for your paired opponent. Thank you for your cooperation!
