Barrovian Books is a handmade bindery in Chicago’s Irving Park neighborhood, crafting and rebinding books, journals, notebooks, and sketchbooks the way they’ve been made for centuries. Each piece is sewn by hand, signature by signature. Covers are hand-formed in-house from recycled pulp. No machines. No outsourced production. Just traditional bookbinding craft, made here.
Chess Club Coffee x Barrovian Books — limited-run journals
We collaborated with Barrovian Books on a small batch of handmade journals featuring unique chess-inspired designs. Each journal is:
Hand-sewn, thread-by-thread, signature-by-signature
Bound with durable, archival stitching for long-lasting use
Covered with handmade paper, pressed and finished in-house from recycled fibers
Printed and decorated using small-batch, hands-on processes so each cover has its own character
Sized for everyday use: portable, sturdy, and pleasant to write or sketch in
Sizes: Small (4.25 x 5.75 in) and Large (6 × 7.25 in)
